Gel X Extensions in Columbus, Ohio
Gel X is a soft gel extension applied as a full-coverage tip and cured to the natural nail. It is light on the hand, soak-off to remove and holds detailed art beautifully. Timing and pricing differ slightly by salon, so check the menu for the location you are booking.

How a Gel X set is built
Your artist starts with cuticle work and a light buff, then sizes each tip to the width of your nail bed rather than the closest guess. The tip is bonded with soft gel, cured, then shaped and refined by hand so the sidewalls stay straight and the apex sits where it should.
Because the extension is one continuous piece of soft gel, there is no filing into the natural nail to build structure. The finish is thinner and lighter than acrylic while still being strong enough for everyday wear.
Choosing length and shape
Almond, square, squoval, coffin and stiletto are all available, in lengths from a natural short to a dramatic long. If this is your first set, a short to medium almond or squoval is the easiest to live with — you keep the shape without relearning your keyboard.
- Short: closest to natural, best for typing, lifting and hands-on work
- Medium: a popular middle ground that holds French and chrome cleanly
- Long: the most room for hand-painted art, charms and 3D detail
Gel X compared with acrylic and dip
Acrylic is harder and heavier, and it usually requires more filing of the natural nail. Dip powder is durable but sits on the natural nail rather than extending it. Gel X splits the difference: real added length, a lighter feel and a soak-off removal that does not need aggressive drilling.
Making a set last
Wear time varies with nail growth, service and daily activity. Cuticle oil keeps the seal flexible, gloves protect the set from cleaning products, and using your fingertips instead of your nails as tools helps prevent lifting. Your artist can suggest a rebooking window that suits your nails.
